Roman Stele

A specialist poly-carving project designed to display and further the story of the Carnwennan Dagger. In this retelling of the Arthurian legend, Carnwennan is a Roman Pugio enhanced by magic. I created this alter in a Roman style, depicting the prophecy of the return of Arthur with a figure of the future king. The Stele has been deliberately aged to reflect the passage of time as Arthur is anticipated.

 

The design was based off of the Mithraic temple located at Hadrian's Wall, combined with alter designs found in Northern England.
